instrumentalist, singer-songwriter and arranger. Portland's own Seffarine offers an "ear-caressing blend of sounds from Spain and north Africa, spiced with a bit of fiery instrumentation and percussion." Combining the soulful sounds of Moroccan singer Lamiae Naki with flamenco guitarist Nat Hulskamp, their music melds into an intoxicating blend of ancient and modern that Bass Player Magazine describes as a "gorgeous intersection of Spanish flamenco, Arabic and Andalusian music, Persian classical, and jazz." The Rafiki Village Project is a 501(c)3 nonprofit. Its mission is to improve health, increase literacy and promote economic prosperity in Tanzanian villages. The Rafiki Village Project is currently working in the village of Gijega, a rural community of subsistence farmers and pastoralists. Poverty, malnutrition, illiteracy, lack of access to clean water, and inadequate health care are among the challenges confronting the villagers.

In the past year the Rafiki Village Project has:

-funded the construction of a new school kitchen at the local primary school
-worked with the community to start a school lunch program
-funded the renovation of the schools classrooms
-built a bathroom for the teachers,
-funded a program for the purchase of antibiotics for the local health clinic
